We've talked about Fanthorp Inn before (here's the post), but we can't say enough nice things about this entirely under-appreciated Texas State Park.  The rangers are consistently friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, and the level of restoration that's been done to the site is amazing.

Today was especially fun, since there were a dozen or so historical reenactments going on at the park.  They were shearing sheep, mending clothing, cooking, processing wool, and generally being very good sports about hanging out in historical costumes on a rather warm day.

On an unrelated note, today we learned that sheep look very awkward without their fleece.

Hello, ibis!

This juvenile pelican wants a snack.

This weekend we're in the Florida Keys. It's amazing and warm. Stay tuned for more when we get home next week! For now, enjoy this beautiful (and very, very lucky) sea turtle.

Government Canyon State Natural Area has a very nice lake for boating, hiking trails, and a brand new campground.  We also saw a lot of late-fall wildflowers, and this potato bug.

Here are a few photos from our day trip to Little Rock, Arkansas.
This is 'the' little rock.  It's the first visible rock as you come north along the Arkansas River.  A little further north is the 'big rock', which is actually a large rocky cliff.

One of the best things about Texas is that you can grow tropical fruits like bananas and citrus right in your yard.  Our lime tree gets no attention (we even forget to water it half the time) yet it's full of limes!  This little guy snuck in on some we picked, perhaps hoping to try our fantastic limeade.
